Glasgow Rangers are looking for a new manager, having recently parted company with Mark Warburton.
Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that while Alex McLeish may be the favourite, Billy Davies would be the ideal person to succeed Mark Warburton at Rangers.
The Scottish Premiership side are now looking for Warburton’s successor after they parted company with the former Brentford boss earlier this week.
The likes of Derek McInnes, Tommy Wright, Frank de Boer, McLeish and Davies have been linked with filling the hot seat at Ibrox (via Express), and Boyd is certain that the latter is the perfect person for the Gers hierarchy to look to appoint.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
“I think it’s time for someone fresh and new. Davies is ideal,” he told The Scottish Sun.
“His CV is sensational. His record second to none. I played for him at Nottingham Forest where he broke club records set by Brian Clough.
“If football is a results-driven business, there isn’t a better man. In any full Championship season he never finished with less than 79 points.
Billy Davies
“I remember thinking back then he’d make a good Rangers manager and I stand by that.”
Like Warburton, Davies has predominantly made his name as a manager in English football, having taken charge of the likes of Preston North End, Derby County – where he led them to the Premier League – and Nottingham Forest.
But what perhaps gives Davies an edge over Warburton is the fact that he would surely have a greater idea of Rangers’ stature than the 54-year-old did when he arrived, having spent several years at Ibrox at the start of his playing career.

And having managed two bitter rivals such as Derby and Forest, he would have an understanding of the pressure that he would be under to succeed with Rangers, as he would have undoubtedly been under intense pressure to prove himself quickly at Forest given where his previous job had been.

And having now been out of work for nearly three years, he would surely need to make a fast start with Rangers to confirm to the unconvinced fans that he is the right man to lead them forward.
