Glasgow Rangers picked up an important win, with the Ibrox side moving five points clear of their rivals.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers (17) heads goalwards during the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Livingston and Rangers at Tony Macaroni Arena on January 27, 2019 in Livingston, United Kingdom.

Kris Boyd told Sky Sports’ live post-match coverage of Rangers’ win over Aberdeen (broadcast on 6/2 from 22:00) that he would reserve particular praise for the way that Ross McCrorie and Ryan Jack played for the Gers in the victory.

Steven Gerrard’s side pulled five points clear of their opponents in the Scottish Premiership table as Alfredo Morelos scored twice, while James Tavernier and Jermain Defoe also got on the scoresheet in a 4-2 win against the Dons.

It was an impressive statement from Rangers, who have kept themselves within six points of Celtic with the victory. And while Morelos will take many of the headlines – for good and bad reasons – Boyd insisted that two of the Gers’ midfielders deserve to be recognised.

“I think a special mention to couple of players as well. I thought McCrorie and Jack in the middle of the pitch, in terms of when you’ve not got that focal point, they screened. They didn’t let anything into the central area. They forced Aberdeen wide,” he told Sky Sports.

McCrorie has enjoyed a superb run in the side. Gerrard seemed to bide his time before turning the youngster into a regular part of his plans, but his approach certainly appears to have been the right one.

He is now thriving in the holding role, and is keeping some very good players out of the team.

Meanwhile, Jack undoubtedly shone against his former club. He never seemed to stop running, and provided some moments of real quality. With the pair playing as they currently are, it is slightly difficult to see how the likes of Steven Davis and Glen Kamara get themselves into the team for the time-being.
