Rangers ran out comfortable winners at Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Kris Boyd has praised Scott Arfield and Jermain Defoe for their performance for Rangers as they beat Motherwell 3-0 in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
The Sky Sports pundit admits that he was ‘screaming’ at Defoe for passing the ball in an unselfish manner for Arfield to score his hat-trick goal at Fir Park.
Steven Gerrard’s side enjoyed a comfortable afternoon on the road and secured a deserved three points in the race to secure second spot in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking to Sky Sports Football after the match (07/04/2019 at 2:30 pm), Boyd lauded the calmness of Arfield in front of goal and Defoe’s unselfish play.
“All three of his goals all very composed,” Boyd told Sky Sports Football. “When Defoe is that number nine in the team, you need this [forward runs off the ball by teammates]. Alfredo Morelos is a totally different type of player.
“This isn’t an easy finish [Arfield’s hat-trick goal]. It was fantastic play by Defoe, but a of people would lash at that. You see the composure right in front of goal.
“Defoe, I think deserves a lot of credit [for being unselfish]. I was screaming ‘I wouldn’t have passed it’. I would have wanted to get on the scoresheet. But fair play to him, fantastic ball across and what a finish it is.”
The Gers have now opened up an eight-point lead on third-placed Kilmarnock as they will be looking to finish their Scottish Premiership season on a high.
Gerrard and his players will now take a small break because they will next be in action in 12 days time when they take on Hearts in the Premiership.
Until then, the Scottish Cup will take centre stage at the weekend with Celtic taking on Aberdeen and Inverness hoping to cause an upset against Craig Levin’s Hearts.
