Kris Boyd has praised Kyogo Furuhashi for running himself into the ground ‘for the greater good’ at Celtic. He also feels the striker gives Ange Postecoglou everything he possibly can.
The 28-year-old is enjoying a scintillating season so far at Parkhead with 24 goals and four assists over 35 games. Furuhashi recorded his latest efforts with a brace at Hampden Park last Sunday as Celtic won the League Cup. It was his third trophy since moving to Glasgow.
Celtic paid Vissel Kobe £4.5m to sign Furuhashi during Postecoglou’s first window in charge of the Bhoys in July 2021. The 16-cap Japan star also led the Hoops to the League Cup title in his debut term. He then fired them to Premiership glory and is chasing a second crown.

Furuhashi is also in contention for the Premiership Golden Boot this term, despite offering just 23% of Celtic’s goal tally. He has struck home 19 times through 24 appearances to lead the Golden Boot race by two goals. Liel Abada has fired the Hoops’ second-most with nine.
Celtic travel to St Mirren on Sunday and will hope Furuhashi does not match his worst goal drought this season. The centre-forward has, at worst, gone two Premiership appearances without scoring any this term. He did so in September and on either side of the World Cup.

Kyogo Furuhashi stuns Kris Boyd with his selflessness at Celtic
Beyond producing a prolific record at Parkhead, Furuhashi is stunning Boyd for Celtic with his selflessness in Postecoglou’s attack. The former Rangers striker appreciates how he is willing to work tirelessly for the Hoops and gives everything the forward has in his locker.
“Kyogo Furuhashi couldn’t give any more for Ange Postecoglou if he tried,” Boyd wrote in a column for The Scottish Sun. He also added: “In Kyogo, Celtic have a selfless team player, someone who runs himself into the ground for the greater good.”
Boyd has also praised Furuhashi for his performance in last Sunday’s League Cup final after seeing that Celtic beat Rangers. The forward struck both of the Bhoys’ goals before Alfredo Morelos replied. But the Ikoma, Nara-born star’s movement also impressed the Gers hero.
He noted: “Kyogo’s movement and energy also gave licence to the Celtic midfielders to run beyond him if the opportunity arose – and they did. They could do that knowing Kyogo would cover them if he had to, by busting a gut to get back and defend.”
