Kris Boyd has shared his doubts on Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas in The Scottish Sun.

The former Rangers striker believes that the Hoops have made a gamble by signing the 26-year-old goalkeeper.

As reported by BBC Sport, Celtic completed the signing of the Greece international from AEK Athens this week for a transfer fee of £4.5 million.

With Craig Gordon having left the Hoops this summer and Fraser Forster back at his parent club Southampton after a loan spell at the Hoops, manager Neil Lennon needed to bring in a new goalkeeper.

Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun: “The decision to let Craig Gordon go baffled me at the time and still does.

“This new signing, Vasilis Barkas, looks decent, but it’s still a gamble bringing in a goalkeeper who has never played in Scottish football.

“Barkas may prove to be the real deal, but he’s not going to have the same presence as Fraser Forster.”

Good signing for Celtic?

Boyd may have reservations about Barkas, but the Greece international goalkeeper has arrived at Celtic Park with a strong pedigree.

The 26-year-old did well during his time at AEK and has a lot of experience, and the Celtic fans should have the utmost faith in him.

Scott Bain is a very good goalkeeper, and Barkas will make the position stronger and better.

Celtic are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title for the 10th season in a row in 2020-21.
