Celtic recorded a deserved three points against St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.
Kris Boyd has slammed Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer for his ‘slackness’ after he was sent off during his side’s 2-0 win [BBC Sport] over St Johnstone on Sunday.
The former Rangers man claimed it was ‘disappointing’ to see the 20-year-old see red because he is a ‘talented player’, who strolled through the match.
Brendan Rodgers side had the game wrapped up when St Johnstone attacker Callum Hendry was put through on goal in stoppage time only for Ajer to pull him back leaving referee William Collum no choice put to send him on his way.
Kilmarnock player Boyd offered his thoughts on the incident and backed the senior official for making the right decision in sending the Celtic player off.
“It was spot on [Ajer’s red card],” Boyd told Sky Sports Football on 03/02/2019. “There was a bit of slackness from Kristoffer Ajer.
“It’s disappointing because he’s a talented player. He strolls through the 90 minutes today. There was that little bit, ‘oh no, what is going to happen here’.”
Over the course of the season, Ajer has played 27 games in all competitions for the Bhoys, with 15 of those appearances coming in the league, according to transfermarkt.
The Scottish Premiership encounter was potentially heading for a goalless draw before Rodgers introduced striker Timothy Weah into proceedings.
The highly-rated 18-year-old assisted James Forrest for the opening goal after being on the field for only four minutes before he finished off a swift counter-attack in the dying moments of the game to seal all the points for his side.
That was when Ajer saw red in a brain freeze-like moment as he was clearly trying to help his team secure a clean sheet on the day.
Nonetheless, Celtic now hold a six-point lead on their title rivals, with Steven Gerrard’s side in second and the recently revived Aberdeen in third.
