Ross McCrorie has broken into the Rangers starting eleven of late/
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has claimed in his Scottish Sun column that Ross McCrorie should be given the chance to represent his country despite his tender age.
McCrorie, 19, has taken his first-team chance with aplomb at Rangers since being thrown in at the deep end by former manager Pedro Caixinha and now interim boss Graeme Murty.
Fabio Cardoso’s broken nose has seen McCrorie start the last three games for the Scottish giants, and he even opened his account for Rangers in their last outing against Partick Thistle in a 3-0 win at Ibrox.
Boyd, who is still plying his trade with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, has been particularly vocal since Scotland caretaker manager Malky Mackay announced an inexperienced squad to take on the Netherlands last Thursday.
He urged the next Scotland manager, whoever that may be, to look towards the youth of Scottish football and hand McCrorie a chance as well as Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna and Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous.
“I’d also look at the cream of the next generation, even if they skip the Under-21s to gain experience in the main squad,” Boyd said.
“So many people are talking about Ross McCrorie at Rangers. But even the likes of Scott McKenna at Aberdeen and Ryan Porteous at Hibernian would come on leaps and bounds if invited to train with the big boys.”
Powerful in the air, McCrorie seems to be playing well beyond his years as the four-time Scotland Under-21 international continues to keep the likes of Danny Wilson and Davis Bates on the sidelines at Auchenhowie.
The teenager is expected to keep his place in the side as Rangers prepare to face Hamilton on Saturday, with three points enough to take Murty’s side into second if Hibernian drop points against St. Johnstone and Aberdeen lose to Motherwell.
