The former Rangers striker, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Rangers struggling at left-back will give Neil Lennon’s Celtic the edge in the Scottish Premiership title race.
Boyd, though, believes that Rangers will give their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic a run for their money this season.
Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun: “There’s something in the air at Ibrox right now, and Rangers are going to give Celtic a challenge they have not faced for a long time.
“But Celts have been serial winners for eight seasons and they have got to be considered favourites to get to nine.
“Yet I feel they are going to have to work harder for it than any of the rest of those titles.”
Boyd added: “For me the big concern with Rangers is at left-back, and because of that I just have to lean towards Celtic winning it.”
Positive starts
Both Celtic and Rangers have made positive starts to the 2019-20 Scottish Premiership campaign.
Celtic got the better of St. Johnstone 7-0 at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Christie was the star of the show for the Hoops, as he scored a hat-trick.
As for Rangers, the Gers got the better of Kilmarnock 2-1 away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Steven Gerrard’s side needed an injury-time goal to pick up all three points from the encounter, but one suspects that the Ibrox fans will not care.
