Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have been linked with Steven Davis.
Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that he would be delighted if Rangers seal a move for Steven Davis.
Sky Sports reported on Monday that Davis – who earns £60,000 per week at Southampton [Spotrac] – is willing to accept a pay cut if it helps him to re-sign for Rangers.
The report added that the Premier League giants are open to losing the Northern Ireland international, who turned 34 on New Year’s Day.
Boyd is well aware of Davis’s talents, having played alongside him at Ibrox for two years.
And the 35-year-old hitman reckons that his former team-mate would represent a safe signing by Steven Gerrard and Director of Football Mark Allen, having seen a number of their pre-season recruits struggle.
“Rangers need reinforcements and I would like to see the Davis deal done,” he told The Scottish Sun. “He is a fantastic player — and he knows what it means to play for Rangers.
“Their recruitment hasn’t been great and a number of players have not lived up to their price tag.
“Rather than taking a punt, they should go and get someone of quality like Steven.”
Boyd is right. Davis, despite his advancing years, would be a cracking signing by Rangers.
This is a player with over 300 Premier League appearances, and 105 caps for his country. In terms of experience, not many in the Gers’ current squad can rival him and what a coup he would be.
