Kris Boyd has stated that Rangers need an ‘absolute miracle’ if they are to win the Scottish Premiership ahead of Celtic this season.

Brendan Rodgers side are currently eight points ahead of their Old Firm rivals in the table despite being level on points at the start of the year.

Since the Scottish Premiership’s return from their midwinter break, Celtic have won their game in hand and won all their league games to open up a healthy gap.

Speaking to SPFL Matters on Sky Sports (22/02/2019), Boyd shared his brutally honest thoughts on the Premiership title race as he seemingly made it known that Celtic will be winning yet another league title at the end of the season.

“For me, it is a miracle if Rangers win the league,” Boyd told Sky Sports Football. “Looking back on the last 20 years, Celtic’s worst return in their last 12 games of the season is 19 points. Rangers’ best is 29 points.

“For me, it is going to take an absolute miracle for Rangers to win the league now.”

There are always twists and turns around the corner and Steven Gerrard will be hoping that Celtic can slip up in these next few weeks in order for his team to close the gap.

The Gers can put the pressure on Rodgers side on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Hamilton in the early kick-off, with the Bhoys hosting Motherwell on home soil later on in the day.

In their last league fixture, Rangers recorded a goalless draw against St Johnstone and if they produce a similar performance then they will find themselves dropping more valuable points.

Nonetheless, in midweek, Gerrard’s side emphatically knocked Kilmarnock out of the Scottish Cup, with Alfredo Morelos scoring four goals. Meanwhile, Celtic bowed out of Europe after losing 3-0 on aggregate to Valencia.
