Rangers and Celtic are set to meet for the final Old Firm derby of the Scottish Premiership season next month.

Kris Boyd has admitted that Rangers would be ‘disappointed’ with what they have produced overall this season as he claimed that champions-elect Celtic have been ‘poor in spells’ over the course of the campaign.

The Bhoys are on the verge of securing their eight Scottish Premiership title in a row in a season which has seen Brendan Rodgers leave Parkhead midway through and Neil Lennon return.

Before the turn of the year, Steven Gerrard’s side were level on points with their Old Firm rivals in the table, but since their return from the mid-winter break, things went pear-shaped for the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football (28/04/2019 at 5:15 pm), Boyd felt that his former side won’t be too pleased that they didn’t pounce on Celtic stumbling over the course of the season.

“When you look back over the course of the season, Celtic have been poor in spells,” Boyd told Sky Sports Football. “Rangers have failed to take advantage of that.

“I think if you were to do a report overall, I think Rangers would be disappointed. Yes, they have clinched second and there have been signs of improvement in some areas, but when you break down the periods when Celtic struggled, Rangers didn’t take advantage of it. There were reasons for that.

“When you get to the top of the table what Rangers did. Teams before would have went on and seen that out and that’s not been the case with this so that’ll be a question Steven will be asking himself, you know the mentality of his players.”

Celtic players applaud fans after the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Kilmarnock at Celtic Park on April 27, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The previous Old Firm match, which took place last month at Parkhead, threw up some feisty clashes on the pitch which resulted in two sending offs.

Alfredo Morelos, who is now free from suspension, was sent off during his sides 2-1 defeat against Celtic, whilst Andy Halliday was shown red after the final whistle.

As expected, there were a lot of talking points during that match and the same will be expected when both teams lock horns for the final time next month.
