Serge Aurier was part of the Tottenham Hotspur defence which was humiliated by Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

His night could have been a lot shorter, perhaps mercifully so.

Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac was frustrated Aurier was not sent off for a late challenge on David Alaba.

Aurier landed feet first on Alaba’s chest, which prompted the Austrian defender being substituted at half-time.

The Tottenham right-back escaped without even a booking.

Kovac told the Kleine Zeitung: “If that is not red, then I do not know.”

Aurier might have wished he was sent off, it might have spared him the embarrassment of getting exposed by Bayern’s prolific attack.

It might have been worse for Spurs with 10 men, or it could have caused them to take a more defensive mindset,

It certainly would have given them a bit of an excuse. The manner of the defeat remains indefensible at this point.
