Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny joked when he was quizzed over a weakness in his game.
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny produced a response to a weakness in his game, which may not please fans.
The Frenchman has been chatting to the media, as have plenty of other players during the international break, and addressed a question at Clairefontaine over the number of penalties he concedes.
His response? To joke about the matter and suggest it could be catalogued as a world record.
In the Frenchman’s defence, he’s only made one error which has led to a spot kick this season, which is the only instance of a penalty being conceded in the Premier League by an Arsenal player.
| 2014/2015 | Team | Pos | Penalty Conceded | Apps | Mins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Laurent Koscielny | Arsenal | DF | 1 | 6 | 476 |
| 2013/2014 | Team | Pos | Penalty Conceded | Apps | Mins |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Laurent Koscielny | Arsenal | DF | 3 | 32 | 2,741 |
| Wojciech Szczesny | Arsenal | GK | 2 | 37 | 3,330 |
| Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain | Arsenal | MF | 1 | 14 | 523 |
However, he also conceded three penalties last season, which was more than any other teammate.
It can be viewed one of two ways.
Firstly, he’s got a genuine problem when it comes to the timing of challenges and his ability to read the game.
Secondly, and the more likely, he’s just a very aggressive player who is willing to take risks and his response should be judged as a tongue in cheek as he doesn’t feel it’s a major concern.
To conclude, if he does have a technical flaw, which leads to him conceding more penalties than any other player, Arsene Wenger is the man to sort it out.
