Aston Villa picked up a decent point from their latest Championship clash on Saturday.
Kortney Hause took to Twitter to thank the supporters who travelled to Stoke to watch Aston Villa come from behind to earn a point in their latest Championship clash.
Dean Smith’s men went into the game looking to avoid suffering a third consecutive defeat and hoping to secure only their second win of 2019 against a Potters side who are also enduring an underwhelming campaign.
The game started miserably for Villa however, as Sam Vokes’s flick found its way past Jed Steer after just five minutes. Smith also had to cope with losing Alan Hutton to injury in those opening minutes.
But the Villans responded well. Anwar El Ghazi squandered an excellent chance before the break after a superb pass from Tammy Abraham, and Smith’s men would be level shortly after the hour-mark.
El Ghazi pulled the ball back after getting down the left flank, and the cross found its way into the path of the Albert Adomah, who slid the ball into the back of the net with his first touch.
The result leaves Villa 11th in the Championship with 12 games remaining. The gap to the play-offs is currently eight points, but Preston North End are the only side in the six teams immediately above Villa that do not boast at least one game in hand over Smith’s side.
Their hopes of breaking into the top six are clearly slim. But a victory against Derby County next weekend would signal a big shift in momentum.
