Aston Villa took up the option to sign Kortney Hause from Wolves, with BBC Sport reporting the fee being just £3 million.

Hause had a successful loan spell at Villa at the end of the season, helping them to win promotion.

Hause needed to leave Wolves, after it was made clear he was not part of Nuno Santo’s plans.

Wolves are not a weaker team having let Hause go. He was stagnating and needed the move.

However if he succeeds at Aston Villa in the Premier League, Wolves will rightly ask themselves questions if they mismanaged him and made a mistake.

For Villa, the move is 100 per cent worth the gamble.

£3 million is such a snip in today’s transfer market that it’s almost a free transfer.

Hause is an England under-21 international and has 140 club appearances to his name in his career already.

Dean Smith has shown already at Villa that he can improve players and Hause has big potential.

Even if he does not work out, Villa are sensible to give it a go. Hause has shown enough in his brief Villa spell to persuade them it is a low risk decision.
