Sunderland target Dimitrios Konstantopoulous has signed a new contract with Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos has today signed a new one-year contract with the club, which has seemingly ended any chance of him joining Sunderland.
Greek shot-stopper Konstantopoulous, 39, had spells with Kalamata, Egaleo and Farense before heading to England, where he became something of a cult hero with Hartlepool.
Spells with Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, Swansea City and Cardiff City followed, and after heading back to Greece with Kerkyra and AEK Athens, Konstantopoulous was back in England in 2013, joining Middlesbrough.

The veteran goalkeeper has made over 100 appearances for Boro, but has mostly been cover in recent years, making just four appearances since the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Now 39, Konstantopoulous has decided to pen a new one-year deal with Boro, taking him up to the summer of 2019, meaning he will be playing into his 40’s.
The deal also means that Konstantopoulos is unlikely to be joining Sunderland any time soon, with The Sunderland Echo noting that the Black Cats had been keen to lure him to the Stadium of Light.

Manager Chris Coleman worked with Konstanopoulos at Coventry and was pursuing a reunion in January, potentially renewing his interest in the summer given Sunderland’s goalkeeping woes this season.
Now though, Konstantopoulous appears to have ruled out a move to Wearside, and Coleman will have to look elsewhere if he wants to replace the likes of Jason Steele, Robbin Ruiter and Lee Camp.
