Ibrahima Konate has revealed that Cody Gakpo is already looking very ‘comfortable’ behind the scenes at Liverpool.

The Reds got their January business off to a flyer by signing the £37 million winger from PSV Eindhoven, despite interest from Manchester United.

Gakpo is now training with Liverpool teammates but it remains to be seen when Jurgen Klopp will unleash him.

Konate trained with his new colleague for the first time at Kirkby on Thursday.

And here’s what the France international said about his Dutch teammate.

He told Liverpool’s website: “I only trained with him [on Thursday] and he’s comfortable, he’s happy to be here. We are also happy to be with him in this season and we know he did a very great World Cup. I hope he will help us a lot.”

It’s genuinely fascinating to see how he fares under Klopp.

This is a player who had 30 goal involvements for the Eredivisie outfit – and that’s only for the first half of this season.

In terms of end product, he was something of a monster in the Netherlands and although an adjustment period is necessary, there’s no doubt he will adapt to life in the Premier League.

There’s also no doubt that English football is tougher, but the Liverpool new boy is also proven on the European stage and hopefully it won’t be long before the Reds’ faithful fall in love with him.
