Liverpool youngster Ibrahima Konate has told Sky Sports that his teammate Virgil van Dijk is the best defender in the world.
Konate, who joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window, has said that he cannot compare himself to Van Dijk just yet.
The 22-year-old French defender believes that the Netherlands international is the best defender on the planet.
The youngster has added that he wants to reach the level of Van Dijk in he future.
Konate told Sky Sports: “No, no, I think I cannot compare with Virgil because he showed to the world that he is the best defender in the world.”
Reaching Virgil van Dijk’s level
Van Dijk is one of the best central defenders on the planet who has been instrumental in Liverpool winning the Premier League and the Champions League in recent seasons.
The 30-year-old centre-back is back from injury, and his influence is there for all to see.

Liverpool fans will agree with Konate’s claim that Van Dijk is the best central defender on the planet.
However, rival fans will point at some other defenders.
Manchester United’s Raphael Varane, Thiago Silva of Chelsea, Sergio Ramos of Paris Saint-Germain and Ruben Dias of Manchester City all are brilliant defenders.
Konate is still developing and progressing as a footballer, and perhaps in the coming years he will reach Van Dijk’s level.
