New Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is ‘determined’ to raid former club Anderlecht and bring Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru to the Championship this summer, according to Football Ghana.
The Manchester City legend was only officially unveiled as Sean Dyche’s successor a couple of days ago.
But Kompany certainly isn’t wasting any time as he looks to guide Burnley straight back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The Clarets have already shown an interest in Mandela Keita, Makhtar Gueye and Michael Amir Murillo, three players the former Belgium international knows very well from his time in the Anderlecht hot-seat.
Will Burnley land Anderlecht’s Majeed Ashimeru?
According to reports in his homeland, 24-year-old Ghana international Ashimeru is another player Kompany is desperate to work with in Lancashire. A graduate of the feted Red Bull Salzburg finishing school – like Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and more – Ashimeru only joined Anderlecht last summer for a fee of around £1.3 million.

But the talented attacking playmaker obviously left a lasting impression in Kompany. Understandably so, when you consider he mustered three goals and three assists in just 10 Jupiler League starts.
Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan, meanwhile, even went as far as to describe Ashimeru as the best midfielder the Black Stars have to offer – after Thomas Partey – expressing his disbelief that the RSCA star had been omitted from the squad ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Nigeria.
According to respected reporter Owuraku Ampofo, Burnley will have a difficult task luring Ashimeru to Turf Moor.
Kompany, he writes, held talks with the former St Gallen loanee a fortnight ago. A deal will be ‘very complicated’ however. Ashimeru currently has little interest in leaving an Anderlecht side who will be playing European football in 2022/23.
