The Austrian international has been linked with a move to his former club in recent weeks.
FC Koln athletic director Jorg Schmadtke has been discussing his club’s apparent interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer with German publication Kicker.
The Koln boss, who has been away on holiday, spoke to Kicker about the potential for January incomings at the Bundesliga club – including any potential return for their former player Wimmer.
But he suggested that no deal was on the cards, and that a visit from the Tottenham defender recently was simply a friendly one to visit old acquaintances at the club.

He stated:
“Kevin was here, the situation at Spurs is not so great for him. But it is not that Tottenham had prevented anything. We did not start an official request to Tottenham that we wanted the player.
“The story, as I have read it, is not correct in its entirety. If he had wanted to change, we would certainly have talked about it.
“Yes, he was visiting us. Since we are talking to him, of course, because he is a former player. We talk with former players about their situation because we are tracking them.

“Then you ask: How do you feel, what perspective do you have, what thoughts do you have? From this the journalists make a simultaneous contract talk. This was a friendly conversation in which you listen. Nothing else.”
This follows on from reports yesterday that Spurs had informed Koln the Austrian international is going nowhere – as reported by Express.de.
Wimmer had an excellent first season at Spurs, after joining from Koln in the summer. He stepped up brilliantly when Jan Vertonghen was injured and earned himself a new deal at the club.

However, this season he slipped down the pecking order with Eric Dier slotting into centre-back when Toby Alderweireled was injured and young American talent Cameron Carter-Vickers pushing him for a first-team spot.
Despite this, Spurs do not look set to let him leave in the coming weeks, and Koln seem content not to push for his transfer.
