Everton’s Henry Onyekuru scored again for Anderlecht this weekend.
Everton’s woes continued on Sunday with a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford, but one of their loan players did enjoy his weekend.
The Toffees have now lost their last three games with a combined scoreline of 10-0, as Ronald Koeman’s men struggle to tighten up at the back, and can’t score at the other end.
A common problem has been a complete lack of pace in the Everton side, and summer signing Henry Onyekuru’s impact at Anderlecht will be all the more frustrating for manager Koeman as a result.
The Nigerian winger signed for Everton from KAS Eupen in Belgium, but was sent back to Belgium for a loan deal with Anderlecht, as he only qualified for an entry visa in the UK, not a work visa.
Onyekuru, 20, has made an impact for Anderlecht, and rescued a point against Kortrijk this weekend, reacting quickly to Lukasz Teodorczyk’s saved shot to make it 2-2.
That’s his second goal of the season in just five games for Anderlecht, and his impression on the game against Kortrijk is all the more impressive when you factor in that he only came on as a 64th minute substitute.
Possessing real pace and an eye for goal, having scored 24 times last season, Onyekuru can provide what Everton are desperately lacking right now, and Koeman may well wish that he had him in his squad right now.
Unfortunately, Onyekuru can’t be recalled for first-team action until he qualifies for a work permit, meaning he will see out the season with Anderlecht and hopefully be ready to go for the start of next season – but whether Koeman will still be Everton manager by then is another matter entirely.
