Everton completed their pre-season preparations against the Spanish side this weekend.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has been speaking to reporters after his side’s pre-season friendly against Sevilla, with his comments published on the Toffees’ official Twitter account.
Everton drew 2-2 with their Spanish opponents, with summer signing Sandro Ramirez and Belgian international Kevin Mirallas finding the net for the hosts.
Sandro’s goal in particular stood out, with the former Malaga man showing composure to take it past the goalkeeper and score from a slight angle, and he can be hopeful of a starting spot when Everton kick off their Premier League campaign next weekend.
Two players who may not feature, having missed out on Sunday, are midfielder James McCarthy and winger Aaron Lennon, and Koeman was quick to explain why they were absent against Sevilla.
“McCarthy and Lennon were both not fit today,” the Everton boss said after the match.
It remains to be seen how much football the pair will get if they remain at Goodison Park beyond the current transfer window.
Everton now have an impressive starting XI that could compete for a top-four finish come May, yet their participation in the Europa League means squad depth will be vital.
That could be where McCarthy and Lennon play most of their matches but only time will tell what their gaffer has planned.
