The Saints boss and defender were upbeat on social media despite a 3-0 defeat at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.
Southampton’s impressive Premier League run came to a shuddering halt on Sunday afternoon at St Mary’s, as Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City side beat them 3-0.
Goals from Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and Gael Clichy sealed the result for the defending champions despite a second-half sending off for Eliaquim Mangala.
The win takes City above Southampton into second place, with the Saints due to face Arsenal and Manchester United next.
But both defender Toby Alderweireld and boss Ronald Koeman were upbeat in the face of defeat on Twitter after the game.
Alderweireld admitted his disappointment but says the side’s confidence will not suffer on the back of one poor result.
Koeman, meanwhile, emphasised the difference in quality between the two sides in the second half.
Pellegrini’s men are now just six points off league-leaders Chelsea and face a trip to Sunderland on Wednesday night.
That is also when the Saints will travel to north London, where Arsenal will host them at the Emirates Stadium.
