When Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-1 back in September, Kobbie Mainoo was still an unknown figure for those outside Old Trafford.

Yet fast forward to the present and he has had a dramatic rise, including earning his maiden call-up to the England set-up.

Gareth Southgate has blooded many youngsters during his time as manager, including Real Madrid’s in-form star Jude Bellingham and Arsenal’s Hale-End forward, Bukayo Saka.

In that sense, if Kobbie Mainoo needs it, he can lean on the advice of those two players because they are now certain starters for their country.

The Manchester United academy product stated that he would like to ‘follow in the footsteps’ of Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka.

He added that the Arsenal youngster, who won the PFA’s Young Player of the Year award last season, is ‘amazing’ alongside the former Borussia Dortmund man, as he told talkSPORT.

England take on Brazil and Belgium in international friendlies over the next ten days, with every possibility that Kobbie Mainoo, Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham all start together.

That is some serious talent to pick from if you are Gareth Southgate, and ahead of Euro 2024, he will have to leave a number of top stars disappointed because the talent pool in England is just growing.

Kobbie Mainoo praises Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka

“Yes, definitely, to follow in the footsteps of them,” said Mainoo about Saka and Bellingham making their mark for England as youngsters.

“They have been amazing. They have come up and stayed up so quickly. They are both great players.”

Should Kobbie Mainoo go to Euro 2024?

The 18-year-old is playing beyond his years and producing performances in a position where England needs added quality and numbers – Sources have told HITC Football that Manchester United are progressing with talks in handing Mainoo a new deal.

If you are good enough, then you are old enough! It’s as simple as that.

Unless there is an injury, Mainoo will continue this form for the rest of the season and Southgate shouldn’t hesitate in picking him.

And if he can go to an even higher level during these next few months, then why not consider starting him at Euro 2024? Nevermind just asking the question of whether or not he should be selected!
