The Express are reporting today that Celtic could walk away from a potential deal to sign Ko Itakura from Manchester City.
What’s the story?
The Express are reporting that Celtic are interested in signing Itakura from Premier League champions City.
The Scottish Premiership giants have held talks with City over a deal for the Japan international central defender.
New Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou wants to sign the 24-year-old, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder.
The problem is that City are ‘demanding a substantial loan fee’ for Itakura.
This, according to the report, could force Celtic to walk away from a potential deal and explore other options.
However, talks are going on regarding Itakura, who is playing for Japan at the Tokyo Olympics.

To pay or not to pay?
The new Scottish Premiership season is about to start, but the summer transfer window will remain open for a while.
There is still time for Celtic to do a deal with City over Itakura.
If Postecoglou wants the Japan international, then the Hoops should do their best to get a deal done.
Of course, Celtic simply cannot pay whatever loan fee City are asking for, but if the Glasgow giants want to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title from Rangers this season, then they have to do something.
