Some Arsenal fans on social media have been reacting to Aston Villa’s tweet about their FA Cup tie last year against Liverpool.
What have Aston Villa posted?
Aston Villa have shared quite a tongue-in-cheek tweet.
The Villans are referencing the fact that they had to play a team full of youth players against Liverpool this time last year.
Of course, this could just be an innocuous post in the lead-up to their FA Cup clash this weekend, but Arsenal supporters think there’s more to it.
What’s the context?
So, why do Arsenal fans think there is some subtext to this tweet?
Well, the game that Villa are alluding to was against Liverpool, and despite a mass covid outbreak at Bodymoor Heath last January, Villa were made to play the FA Cup clash.
In contrast, Liverpool are trying to get their Carabao Cup semi-final game against Arsenal postponed this week, and this could very well be a sly dig at the Reds.
It may just be coincidental, but it has to be said that the timing of this tweet is rather suspicious, and Arsenal fans are absolutely loving it.
Should they play?
Liverpool are trying to get this game postponed but based on last year’s debacle with Villa, there’s an argument to be made that they should be forced to play.
Of course, they’d have to field a weakened team due to a number of first-team stars being in isolation, but isn’t that what Villa had to do against the Reds?
It’s a divisive argument, but we can certainly see why Arsenal supporters would be a bit annoyed if the game did get postponed, especially when you consider what happened last season between Villa and Liverpool.
