Leeds United picked up a huge three points when Burnley visited Elland Road this afternoon.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side recorded a narrow 1-0 victory as United moved 11th in the Premier League table – and nine points clear of the bottom three.

The Clarets are or at least were one of the sides who Leeds might’ve been battling against for survival on their return to the Premier League after 16 years, but this win consolidates the belief that the Whites are good enough to aim higher than simply staying in the top flight.

Things could’ve gone very differently for the hosts on another day, though.

Sean Dyche’s side had a goal chalked off in the first half from Ashley Barnes, after a goal was awarded to Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier for an apparent foul by Ben Mee, who only had eyes on the ball.

It was a very contentious decision and the Burnley boss claims that not only was the goal a legitimate one, but there was a foul from the young French goalkeeper on Mee, if anything.

An angry Dyche told BBC Sport at full-time: “Ben Mee clearly has eyes for the ball, not tried to look at their keeper – their keeper comes through, knees him in the back, if a centre half does that he probably gets booked. Not only is it a penalty, we put it in the goal and he doesn’t give it one second to operate.”
