Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius reportedly rejected a summer move to Swiss side FC Basel.
According to the Athletic, the German shot-stopper had an offer on the table from the Super League side. However, Karis turned down the chance to join Basel due to failing to agree on personal terms.
As per the report, Karius was unwilling to take a pay cut to join Basel, who this season will be competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The 28-year-old keeper has not played for Liverpool since the 2018 UEFA Champions League final.
Indeed, Karius has had two loan spells since that infamous night in Kyiv. However, both spells with Besiktas and Union Berlin have been unable to recapture the former Mainz star’s form.
With Karius rejecting a move to Basel, the keeper is now effectively the fourth choice in the position. Alisson Becker, Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher all featured for the Reds first-team last season.
It is a sad tale given how much hype Karius had following his arrival to Merseyside in 2016. Yet on social media, Liverpool fans are baffled why the German didn’t accept a pay cut this summer to move on.

Karius is unlikely to play a minute of football this season, and Basel would have been a good destination for the shot-stopper, who can do with a career restart.
