Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows about James Milner at Liverpool amid rumours he’ll be signing a new contract.

The midfielder has been one of the most reliable players in Premier League history, but it’s fair to say that his career is now winding down.

Indeed, the midfielder is now 36 years old, and he’s started just two games in 2022.

However, despite his limited minutes on the pitch, Liverpool are apparently very happy with Milner due to the impact he has in the dressing room and how he helps the younger players in the squad.

What’s been said?

Romano shared what he knows about Milner.

“They are in negotiations with Milner, this is true, it’s not done yet, but negotiations are progressing very well. He’s not retiring so they’re super happy with him. Jurgen Klopp’s a big fan, he’s an important player in the dressing room and the impact he has with young players around the club. It’s always important to have this kind of player at a top club,” Romano said.

More than just a footballer

Milner may not be Liverpool’s most important player these days, but it sounds as though he’s a vitally important figure at the club.

He’s been there and done everything there is to do in football, and if young players like Curtis Jones or Harvey Elliott need advice, then there’s probably nobody better to ask than Milner.

Factor in that he’s still one of the fittest players in the Premier League, and you can see why Liverpool want to keep him around.
