Jose Enrique has stated on Instagram that Liverpool shouldn’t sign Gini Wijnaldum, who is interesting a number of Premier League clubs for January, including Arsenal.
The former left-back stated that Jurgen Klopp is a ‘big admirer’ of the PSG midfielder, who left Liverpool on a free-transfer in the summer.
Less than six months after parting ways with the Reds, the technically-gifted Dutchman could be heading back to England’s top-flight.
Sky Sports have reported that Wijnaldum is ‘open’ to returning to the Premier League and Arsenal could be a possible destination for the midfielder.
Enrique reacted to the rumours surfacing yesterday and he doesn’t think a return to Liverpool is on the cards, as he posted in the comments section of the following post.
“I don’t think he’s going to come,” said Enrique. “I don’t think we should have him back either.
“But Klopp is a big admirer of him like we know, so you never know. I believe in (the) midfield. We (will) sort it.”
The words, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side comes to mind with Wijnaldum.
It did seem like Liverpool wanted to keep him on board, but there were seemingly disagreements with the contract that was being put on the table for his talents.
They opted to go their separate ways and it’s not as rosy as Wijnaldum thought it was going to be.
He has started nine games in all competitions for PSG’s star-studded line-up since moving and it’s understandable why he wants out.
What the 31-year-old needs to remember is that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is around the corner.
And he’s going to need to be playing on a more regular basis if he is to be at his fittest and sharpest for that tournament in November.
