Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to Jurgen Klopp and Mario Gotze watching tennis together in Spain.
What’s the story?
As shown below, Liverpool manager Klopp and former Borussia Dortmund star Gotze were watching the Mallorca Open tennis together yesterday.
According to The Sun, Gotze’s wife Ann-Kathrin was also in attendance.
Klopp managed the German attacker when they were at Dortmund.
What is it interesting?
It is not a big deal to see managers hanging out with their former players.
After all, when a manager has worked with a player closely at the club, the two do get close to each other and develop a relationship
However, this is interesting news because of what Gotze said in April.
As quoted in The Liverpool Echo, the former Bayern Munich man said that Klopp wanted to sign him in 2016.
The 29-year-old, who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, returned to Dortmund in the summer of 2016 after a spell at Bayern.
The Liverpool Echo quoted Gotze as saying: “You have to imagine it like this: Where did I come from? From Munich, where I had reached the semi-finals in the Champions League three times with Bayern. I wanted to do that again!
“Liverpool finished eighth in the league. In the situation at the time, the likelihood of winning the Champions League with Borussia seemed much greater.”
Gotze could not make a huge impact in his second spell at Dortmund.
The 29-year-old joined PSV on a free transfer last summer.
What are Liverpool fans saying?
As you see from the posts below, some Liverpool fans have been reacting to the images from Spain.
Given that this is the transfer season, they seem to think that rumours of Gotze moving to the Reds will start.
They may well do, but it is unlikely that Gotze will be a Liverpool player anytime soon.
