Manchester United should battle Liverpool for Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Liverpool are keen on signing Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, the Mirror reported last month, while TalkSPORT report the Reds face competition from Marseille.

The central midfielder could be available for transfer after falling out of favour with boss Ronald de Boer.

Liverpool could well bag themselves a bargain, for a player who cost Inter £26 million to sign, but it would be wise for Manchester United to take a look at signing him themselves too.

Kondogbia is a former central midfield partner of United ace Paul Pogba, with the pair playing together regularly for France’s under-21 side.

The 23-year-old has many of the same attributes as Pogba; he is a tall, physically imposing player, who has an eye for a pass.

Where he differs is that he is more defensively minded, and could be the perfect foil for Pogba in United’s midfield, and provide his French colleague with more license to attack.

United need an upgrade on Marouane Fellaini, and Kondogbia could be just the player to help him flourish at Old Trafford.

The two are close, with Kondogbia telling Football Italia in 2015: “Pogba and I will never be enemies. I think our friendship is stronger than football.”

Having played against each other in Serie A, they could do the same in the Premier League if Liverpool get their man, but from United’s perspective it makes sense to try and partner the duo together.
