Jurgen Klopp has praised Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah for making a real statement against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Jarell Quansah ‘did really well’ for Liverpool in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

That’s the view of Jurgen Klopp, has has spoken to Liverpool’s official website following Saturday’s victory.

This looked like being a nightmare afternoon for Liverpool as Pedro Neto teed up Hwang Hee-chan for the Wolves opener.

Neto was on fire in the first half and Wolves could have been more than 1-0 up against a lacklustre Liverpool.

Klopp changed it at the break though and saw Liverpool turn the game around, securing a 3-1 victory at Molineux.

Cody Gakpo, Andrew Robertson and a Hugo Bueno own goal handed Liverpool a comeback victory.

Liverpool seemed a little more settled after the break and didn’t look quite as panicked defensively.

The Reds seemed all at sea in the first half – except for youngster Jarell Quansah.

Virgil van Dijk is still suspended and with Joe Gomez shifting over to right back, Quansah was called upon at centre back.

Klopp was very impressed with the 20-year-old as he racked up three tackles, two interceptions and five clearances in an impressive display.

Klopp told Liverpool’s official website that he felt Quansah did ‘really well’ against Wolves.

The German added that others around him looked disorganised but for Quansah to impress the most out of that back line was a real ‘statement’ according to Klopp.

“He did well, he did really well,” said Klopp. “It was really good, a nice, wonderful experience for him. He came on always in very decisive moments, he didn’t come on to close games or whatever, we had to do something there. And today he was good, I have to say. In such a disorganised team like we were in the first half, being the one who looks kind of alright is a statement absolutely. So, really happy for him. He is obviously pretty happy in the moment as well. A good boy,” he added.

We may see more of Quansah this season

Van Dijk will be back soon enough and Gomez is a centre back by trade, whilst Ibrahima Konate will be back in the mix for a starting role too.

That means Quansah is likely to slip down the pecking order but this performance may live long in the memory for Klopp.

Reports in recent days have indicated that Liverpool didn’t sign a centre back this summer in part because of Quansah, believing that he can step up.

Joel Matip didn’t impress against Wolves and is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning a departure is surely coming for him.

Liverpool may well feel that playing Quansah over Matip may be more beneficial for the future, so the former Bristol Rovers loanee may be primed for some more Premier League action this season.
