Tim Sherwood told Optus Sport on Premier League Productions on Monday night that the likes of West Ham will see all their efforts come to ‘nothing’ if this proposed European Super League goes through.
The last 48 hours in English football has been dominated by 12 teams, which includes the so-called top-six in England, planning to breakaway to a Super League.
West Ham are currently sitting in the top-four, ironically enough, above Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal.
And if they can get over that dotted line this season then they, along with Leicester, deserve to be playing Champions League football next season.
“You dare to dream,” said Sherwood. “Jurgen Klopp talked about it there with West Ham.
“At the moment, they are in the Champions League spot. What happens to the team?
“What happens to the teams who do go beyond? The Leicester’s of this world, who are stepping into that different level.
“Who have got managers who have worked miracles and put them in a position where they are challenging the big clubs. All their effort will go to nothing.”
Given what has happened regarding the European Super League, many supporters across the footballing world will be hoping the likes of West Ham can now qualify for the Champions League.
Even if this proposed deal collapses, and it now does seem like it’s starting to fall apart, supporters won’t forget what was being planned.
And with the Hammers due to play Chelsea at the weekend, it’s obvious who the neutrals will be backing.
