Chris Waddle has suggested that Liverpool’s dramatic winner against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday might have been disallowed.
Roberto Firmino rose highest to head home in the dying minutes to give the Premier League champions a 2-1 win over Jose Mourinho’s side.
The Spurs boss was furious at full-time and said to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp that the best side lost.
But in his post-match interview, Mourinho didn’t bring up the incident that happened just before Firmino’s header.
Television replays indicate that Tottenham defender Eric Dier was nudged to the ground by Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.
And although Waddle has told BBC Sport that the hosts were the better side, he feels that Henderson may have ‘deliberately blocked’ the Lilywhites defender.
He said: “Liverpool were the better team over the 90 minutes and created the more chances. But…when you analyse that goal, did Jordan Henderson deliberately block Eric Dier?”
Was it a foul? It would’ve been very soft.
There is definitely contact between Henderson and Dier but, then again, the Tottenham star is a formidable man and there was nowhere near enough force for the latter to lose his footing.
