Liverpool signed the goalkeeper from Roma last month.
Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp spoke to reporters after his side’s impressive 5-0 friendly win over Napoli in Dublin last night, and chose to single out new signing Alisson Becker for praise, after the Brazilian made his debut for the Reds, as quoted by ESPN.
The Merseyside outfit splashed out around £67 million to bring the 25-year-old stopper to Anfield from Roma last month, and many fans and pundits alike believe that it could be the signing that makes all the difference for Klopp’s side this season.
Liverpool haven’t won the top flight title since 1990, and it seems as though this term will be their best chance of ending that 28-year wait.
Klopp addressed the media after last night’s comfortable win over Napoli, and talked up the quality of his new goalkeeper, offering high words of praise for how he performed considering the pressure that he was under to do so, as quoted by ESPN:
“He’s quite a good footballer — probably as good as the goalie he is! An all-round good performance for the first game. He was very, very aware of all situations when he was needed behind a high last line. We involved him a lot in our build up, but we need to get used to that a little bit more still — that’s clear [and] he needs to get used to it a little bit more, but there were a lot of good build-up situations, so that helps. But at the end he’s there to catch balls and he did that in all the decisive moments today, so I’m really pleased.”
Liverpool finished a full 25 points adrift of Manchester City in the Premier League table last season, so they will certainly have their work cut-out, if they are to push Pep Guardiola’s men all the way this term.
With Alisson now on board, though, they will be in a great position to do just that.
