Liverpool will be back in action this weekend, as they take on Merseyside rivals Everton on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds were dismal in their 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa before the international break, and need to bounce back against the Toffees.

Jurgen Klopp will be weighing up his starting XI for the game, and summer signign Thiago may well be in contention.

The Spaniard missed the game against Villa but is now back in training according to The Mirror, meaning he could start against Everton.

Thiago’s availability may present Klopp with something of dilemma, and the chance to take a real gamble in the quest of getting back on track following that defeat to Villa.

Bringing Thiago into midfield alongside Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield would give Liverpool legs and control in midfield, whilst possibly freeing up Fabinho for a drop into defence.

Joe Gomez suffered a nightmare showing against Villa, and has looked a little short of confidence so far this season.

When he missed out against Chelsea, Fabinho slotted into defence superbly, handling Timo Werner whilst racking up three tackles, four interceptions and, notably, Liverpool’s one league clean sheet of the season.

Fabinho is a little more physical than Gomez, and that could be very helpful against Everton’s in-form goalscorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is particularly impressive in the air.

Thiago’s return certainly makes this idea seem even more appealing, and it’s now up to Klopp decide whether to take the gamble or back Gomez to recapture his best form after the international break.
