Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted on Sky Sports that even he thought Brighton & Hove Albion were causing his side lots of problems last night.
Liverpool picked up a 3-1 win on the south coast, but they were given a scare by a Brighton side who put in a highly credible display.
Liverpool actually raced into a 2-0 lead in the contest inside the first 10 minutes, and at that point it looked as if they would cruise to victory.
However, Brighton struck back just before half-time through Leandro Trossard.
And Klopp says that he informed his Liverpool players in the dressing-room that they were lucky to be in-front at the break.
“We started really well. We had to adapt a little bit as we knew what they wanted to do, but it was a little bit hard to defend,” Klopp said.
“We left one or two players in a position where if we won the ball we had players in the counter-attack position.
“We got the first two goals with super balls but we could have scored more. I said to the boys at half-time they could have been 2-2 too. It was a nice game to watch!
“We don’t have an influence on what the other team do. We just have to react.”
Thankfully for Klopp Liverpool ended up pushing on in the second-half, and ultimately restored their two-goal advantage in the game.
Mohamed Salah scored in the 76th minute to effectively kill the game as a contest, as Liverpool picked up yet another three points.
The Reds are next in action against Burnley at the weekend, as they look to get the wins required to get past the 100 point barrier over the remainder of the season.
