Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained to Amazon Prime that he didn’t put Diogo Jota in his starting line-up against Wolves as he didn’t want the Portuguese forward to be targeted by them.
Jota has made an incredible start at Liverpool since moving from Molineux, with his performances earning him a great deal of credit.
He would surely have been champing at the bit to start in Liverpool’s game against Wolves last night, to show his former club exactly what they have been missing.
However, Klopp left Jota on the bench, and only brought him on to the pitch late on.
And the Liverpool boss revealed his decision was taken as a way to protect the player.
“I just didn’t want to have that he’s that target,” Klopp said. “He can watch the game, get a feeling for what it’s like to play against Wolves and not with them.”

Klopp’s decision turned out to be the correct one, as Liverpool proved a major threat even without arguably their most in-form attacker.
The Reds still managed to pick up a 4-0 victor over Wolves, as they demolished Nuno’s side, and kept the pressure on at the top of the table.
Liverpool’s next league games comes against Fulham, and it will be interesting to see if a rested Jota is given a start at Craven Cottage.
