Jurgen Klopp has shared that he told Alisson Becker ‘thank you for saving our a**e again’ after Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1 on Sunday, as he told Sky Sports.
The Liverpool boss stated that Alisson was ‘very helpful’ in his side picking up all three points and labelled the player as ‘world-class’.
Whilst, going forward, the Reds were pretty comfortable in the first half, there were a few sloppy moments and Alisson pulled off a number of high-quality saves to keep it 2-0 going into the break.
In the second half, the roles reversed, as Palace pulled a goal back and they constantly exploited the high line the away team were playing.
Prior to the controversial Liverpool penalty, Palace would have been wondering how they didn’t score more than one, with Alisson proving to be the difference-maker in between the sticks.
Klopp lauded what his number one keeper brings to the table and shared the conversation the duo had after the game.
“I said to him, ‘thank you for saving our a**e again’,” said Klopp. “And he told me, ‘it’s my job’.
“Then I said ‘yes, it’s the job of all goalkeepers, but they don’t do it that often anyway’.
“So, yes, very helpful having a world-class goalkeeper at the back.”
Whilst some Liverpool players will now be on a mini-break during these next few weeks.
There is going to be no rest for Alisson because he will be in South America competing in World Cup qualifiers for Brazil.
When the Reds return to action, they will also have Mo Salah and Sadio Mane available after their commitments at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Both players are still in the competition and one of them will be hoping to return with the trophy in hand.
