Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Thiago Alcantara could be back from injury for Liverpool’s Premier League match against Brighton this month after their European clash against Inter Milan.

Speaking to the press via the Athletic, the German manager revealed that Thiago is expected to miss this week’s matches against Norwich City in the FA Cup and West Ham on the weekend in the Premier League.

Thiago was injured in the warm-up for Liverpool’s League Cup final against Chelsea, with the midfielder being spotted by TV cameras broken down in tears for missing out on his first showpiece fixture since moving to Merseyside.

The Spanish international has again had a season with Liverpool interrupted by injuries, with stats from Transfermarkt showing that Thiago has missed a staggering 20 games this campaign through various knocks.

Indeed, Thiago’s current injury doesn’t appear to be too bad, with Klopp confident that the former Bayern Munich star could be back for Liverpool’s massive European clash against Inter at the earliest.

The Liverpool boss said when asked about Thiago’s injury: “It was an emotional moment. We had to make the decision; he couldn’t start after feeling something in the warm-up. This weekend (against West Ham), I am not sure, maybe Inter, after that definitely.”

Liverpool will need Thiago injury-free if they are to make title charge

Thiago has been key to Liverpool’s midfield this season, and the midfielder picking up an injury the day of a cup final appeared to come at the worst possible time, with supporters fearing the worst.

However, with Klopp’s comments clearing up that Thiago, who was labelled as ‘magnificent’ by Fabrizio Romano, won’t be out for too long, Liverpool will be hoping the 30-year-old can remain injury-free for the remainder of the season if they are to win the Premier League title.
