Liverpool forward Divock Origi has played an increasing role in the Reds’ title challenge in recent weeks.

Jurgen Klopp called on the Belgian in a crucial game against Tottenham at the weekend with the game poised.

The 23-year-old featured in all four of Liverpool’s matches in March, following his goal in the win over Watford in late February.

Klopp has told Liverpool’s website that Origi has earned his minutes after hard work in training for Liverpool.

The German says that Origi is tough to plan against, when he drills his defenders against him.

He said: “If we have the opportunity to play 11 v 11 and Div is in the other team then he’s a proper challenge to deal with.

“He can play two positions at least which is good. For us, it’s very important to keep the speed on the wing. His size is also important for defensive set-pieces.

“All credit to Div, he has done really well and it’s absolutely deserved. Not one second that he’s been given has been a present this season.”

Origi, signed for £10 million in 2014, has had a tough spell at Anfield over the last five seasons.

A disastrous loan at Wolfsburg last season affected his confidence and it is not easy for any player to break into the Liverpool team with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino up top.

Origi is giving it his best effort and his hard work is at least being appreciated.
