Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Harvey Elliott as ‘unbelievable’, although he has admitted to the Liverpool Echo that it is much easier to put Neco Williams into the first-team.
Elliott faces a hugely difficult task of displacing Mo Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino for a starting place at Liverpool.
Even beyond Liverpool’s usual attacking trio he is competing with the likes of Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri for game time.
Williams, on the other hand, only really has Andy Robertson to battle with for a spot at left-back.
But Klopp insists that Elliott is a hugely exciting prospect, even if he isn’t receiving many minutes currently.
“Neco make exactly the same steps as Harvey and Curtis,” Klopp said.
“It is a little bit easier for him to have minutes than it is for example Harvey. Who has made really good steps and is unbelievable. The more players you can produce yourself is better it saves you money.”
Elliott is part of a group with Williams and Curtis Jones who are pushing for a first-team place right now.
He was the only one of the trio who didn’t receive any game time in Liverpool’s last match, which ended up as a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
Elliott could be involved tomorrow though, with Liverpool set to take on Brighton & Hove Albion.
