The Liverpool boss has admitted that keeping the midfielder could be difficult.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the club must work hard to convince midfielder Emre Can to stay.
Can’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January.
Manchester City are amongst the clubs that are interested in signing Can, as reported by The Sun, but Klopp is eager to keep the Germany international.
As reported by the Mirror, Klopp said: “I said he could still sign a contract in May. We want to keep him. We have to be as attractive as possible as a club.”
Efficient at breaking up play and impressive at retaining possession, Can has made ten Premier League appearances for Liverpool this season, although he has twice been used as a substitute in recent weeks, with Klopp often rotating his side given the club’s Champions League commitments.
Can will turn 24 in January and has time to develop even further and potentially become one of the standout defensive midfielders in world football.
Losing Can would undoubtedly be a significant blow for Liverpool, although the club are bringing in Naby Keita from RB Leipzig next summer.
Liverpool will be determined to respond against Chelsea after surrendering a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 away to Sevilla in the Champions League this week.
Klopp’s side are currently fifth in the Premier League, two places and three points adrift of Chelsea.
