Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Liverpool will have Roberto Firmino back for Monday’s trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Brazilian sat out the Champions League win over Leipzig with a knock earlier this week.
But Klopp has told a pre-match press conference today that the Liverpool attacker may return for the visit to Molineux.
He briefly said: “We will see. Bobby was not with us so that means he could not play, but now we’ve had a few more days. We have the medical meeting after the press conference so I’ll get more information about that [Firmino]. But with two more days [before Wolves], hopefully.”
Diogo Jota deputised for the former Hoffenheim star against the German side in midweek and it looks certain that he’ll start up front again versus Wolves.
Even if Firmino is available, the Portuguese star was on the cusp of displacing him even before his injury in December.
As talented as Firmino is, his output has been a big issue this season.
He has only managed six goals in 37 games across all competitions for Liverpool and it’s clear that although Jota might not be as adept at creating chances or feeding Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, he is a better goalscorer.
The former Wanderers attacker has netted nine times in 20 outings so far and considering the likes of Salah and Mane have been hit and miss for most of 2021, having another big goal threat is a huge plus.
