Liverpool face Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday in a game that they need to win by at least three goals in order to secure top spot in their group.
The Reds have been in terrible form as of late, losing to both Nottingham Forest and Leeds over the last fortnight, so they won’t be relishing the thought of playing against a Napoli team that are arguably one of the best in Europe at the moment.
However, as history as shown, strange things can happen on a big European night at Anfield, so perhaps the Reds could grab a result that would propel them to the top of Group A here.
With that in mind, we’ve had a go at predicting the Reds’ starting XI for this one.
Jurgen Klopp has already said that there won’t be huge rotation in the XI here, so we think that there will be just two changes from the team that lost against Leeds.
“It’s not game for massive rotation. We want to win the game. I have to make the line-up later today or maybe tomorrow morning. Then we will go from there. We have to put a proper shift in, so we need the players who have the possibility to do that. I don’t know who that is now,” Klopp said.
Fabinho and Joe Gomez drop out after two absolutely woeful performances at the weekend with Jordan Henderson and Ibrahima Konate coming in.
With a game against Tottenham on the horizon at the weekend, playing a strong XI here is something of a risk, but with the Premier League title seemingly out of reach now, we think that Klopp will roll the dice here and play what is arguably his strongest team.
The 4-4-2 diamond formation is once again utilised here with Henderson taking Fabinho’s place as the deepest player in the midfield, while Konate partners van Dijk at centre-half.
Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah start up top as Liverpool desperately try to chase goals and ascend to the top of their group.
