Liverpool appear to have kept Piotr Zielinski on their radar.
Liverpool take on Napoli in the Champions League this evening, and that gives midfielder Piotr Zielinski the chance to impress against the club who tried to sign him in 2016.
Zielinski, 24, may have been in and out of the Napoli side last season under Maurizio Sarri, but he has nailed down a regular spot with Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, boasting some great early season form.
The Polish international has grabbed two goals in his first seven Serie A games this season, even earning comparisons to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne for his creative play from midfield.
Zielinski will be looking to continue that form tonight against Liverpool, and it will give Reds boss Jurgen Klopp a chance to see him up close – just as he did with Alisson in the Champions League last season.
As reported by Goal, Liverpool wanted to land Zielinski from Udinese in the summer of 2016, but as they were told his asking price would keen rising, they went for Georginio Wijnaldum instead.
Zielinski ended up with Napoli for a bargain £14million, but the same report states that Klopp is still watching the midfielder from afar with a view to moving for him in the future – even if his asking price will sky-rocket even by 2019.
Adding Zielinski would be a dream signing for Liverpool alongside the likes of Naby Keita and Wijnaldum, and there may be scope for one big midfield addition given that Adam Lallana’s time may be coming to an end, and James Milner is out of contract next summer.
Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey has been linked this week, but if Zielinski can impress in front of Klopp tonight, then he may be back as Liverpool’s top midfield target in what would be yet another big-money signing for the Reds.
