Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp decided to veto a potential move for defender Jarell Quansah to leave the club on loan this past summer.

Jarell Quansah could have left Liverpool on loan this summer but Jurgen Klopp blocked a potential departure.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Klopp decided to put the block on a Quansah loan exit.

We are used to seeing Liverpool endure more than a few defensive injuries, forcing young or fringe defenders to step up.

Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips spring to mind and now it’s Quansah’s turn.

Virgil van Dijk has been suspended whilst Joe Gomez has been forced to cover for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back.

That means Quansah has been needed at centre back with Klopp’s decision ultimately paying dividends.

It’s suggested that Quansah actually had ‘plenty of offers’ to leave Liverpool over the summer.

The 20-year-old spent time on loan at Bristol Rovers last season and he seemingly did enough to impress other clubs.

We wouldn’t be at all surprised if Championship clubs wanted to sign Quansah after showing his potential in League One.

Klopp clearly felt that Quansah could play a role in the first-team though and was better off sticking around at Anfield than heading away.

Quansah certainly impressed as a substitute against Newcastle United in August, before arguably being Liverpool’s best defender at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

Joel Matip’s contract expires in 2024 and Liverpool may well be tempted to utilise Quansah more, blooding him for the future.

Klopp has shown real faith in Quansah already; from blocking a loan move to throwing him into Premier League games.

Quansah – hailed as ‘excellent’ by Andy Robertson – is repaying Klopp’s faith right now and Liverpool fans are right to be excited about him.
