Liverpool are joining the race to sign Schalke wonderkid Assan Ouedraogo with Jurgen Klopp especially interested.

Jurgen Klopp is showing a real interest in bringing Schalke talent Assan Ouedraogo to Liverpool in 2024.

That is according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who claims that Klopp is driving Liverpool’s interest in Ouedraogo.

Ouedraogo has emerged as a huge talent with Schalke this season and the 17-year-old is now attracting major interest.

The teenager is already wanted by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United according to 90Min.

Liverpool keen on Assan Ouedraogo

Liverpool now appear to be joining in with Plettenberg suggesting that the Reds – and especially boss Jurgen Klopp – are interested.

Plettenberg notes that Ouedraogo has a €20million (£17million) release clause which can be activated in 2024.

That would likely be in the summer but clubs are already queueing up to land him after a promising season so far.

Plettenberg adds that Everton are also interested, meaning we could see a real Merseyside battle for Ouedraogo in 2024.

Liverpool would back themselves to win that race, with Klopp’s personal pursuit of Ouedraogo potentially key to any Anfield move.

Who is Liverpool target Ouedraogo?

Ouedraogo has football in his blood; his father Alassane was a Burkina Faso international who turned out for Charleroi, Koln, Rot-Weiss Oberhausen and TuS Koblenz in his playing days.

Assan has been coming up in the Schalke ranks for a while now and has nailed down a first-team role in Germany’s second tier.

Hailed as a ‘mega talent’ over in Germany, Ouedraogo is a real presence in midfield at 6ft 3in tall and appears to have a huge future ahead of him.

Ouedraogo is a regular with the Germany Under-17’s despite qualifying to play for Burkina Faso.

Klopp appears to have been drawn to Ouedraogo’s talent and potential, possibly paving the way for a 2024 Anfield move.
