Lionel Messi was tentatively linked with a move to Liverpool a little earlier this week.
According to The Independent, the want-away Barcelona icon is potentially on the Reds’ radar.
Of all the teams linked, Manchester City appear to have the best chance, but Liverpool, as they proved last season, are a better side than the Etihad Stadim club.
But speaking ahead of tomorrow’s Community Shield clash with Arsenal, Klopp insisted Messi is ‘absolutely not for us’ with regards to much he would cost.
The 33-year-old is reported by BBC Sport to have sent a fax to the Camp Nou club and asked them to trigger a clause in his contract which allows him to leave for free.
But according to L’Equipe, he earns a basic salary of £64 million per year.
Here’s what Klopp said via BT Sport about bringing him to Liverpool: “The numbers are absolutely not for us. We don’t even have to start thinking about it. It is clear – no chance. For the Premier League it would be great, having the best player in the world in this league.”
It’s pretty bad news for Liverpool if he winds up on these shores, because the only club going to sign him in England is Man City.
And with Pep Guardiola’s history with the player, it isn’t impossible that he might well wind up at Eastlands.
It could make Liverpool’s attempt to defend their Premier League title much…..much harder.
